Selous Game Reserve
Selous 2 days / 1 night itinerary
DAY 1:
Depart with the 7:50am Coastal flight from Zanzibar to Selous (ETA: 9:15am). Upon arrival you will be met by your Lodge/camp guide and game drive transfer to your camp. Enjoy an afternoon game drive or boat safari. Selous is the largest Game Reserve, four times the size of the Serengeti and at least twice the size of Belgium. If you’re lucky you may even see elephants coming to cross the river or take a bath! Return to your camp in the evening for a hearty meal and overnight at your camp or lodge.

3 days / 2 nights Selous Game Reserve
Covering an area of around 50,000 sq.km, the Selous Game Reserve is one of the largest protected wildlife areas in the world. The reserve contains a wide variety of wildlife habitats, which include open grasslands, acacia and miombo woodlands, riverine forests, and swamps.
The River Rufiji is the main feature in the Selous Game Reserve, with main tributaries twisting and turning across the flood plains as the river runs towards the Indian Ocean. The river's delta contains the largest mangrove forest in the world. Boat Safaris on the river and on the adjacent lakes are a special way to observe wildlife and to see some of the best scenery in the reserve. Hippos, crocodiles, waterbucks, buffaloes, and a large variety of water birds such as herons, kingfishers, and geese are abundant in and around the river.
Game drives are also attractive, especially along the shores of the lakes and the rivers. Evening drives provide a great experience of seeing the sun going down over the lakes. The adventure-seeking traveler can also explore this reserve on foot. The authority of the reserve or the camps organizing the tour will provide an armed ranger for these excursions.
ITINERARY
Domestic Flight departure: 08.00 from Zanzibar airport to Selous - Mtemere airstrip at 09.15
DAY 1
Depart at 9.30 am from Zanzibar airport to Selous - Mtemere airstrip at 12.30 pm Start the Boat Safari at 4 pm (2.5 hours Drive back to Selous River Camp for dinner and overnight.
DAY 2
Following breakfast, depart at 8 am, you will spend the whole day on a game drive in the Selous game reserve (8-9 hours) with Picnic lunch at the reserve. Drive back to Selous River Camp for dinner and overnight.
DAY 3
Your last day begin at 6 am for a breakfast and a Walking Safari (approximately 2 to 3 hours) – Departure from Selous - Mtemere airstrip at 12.50 am and arrive in Zanzibar at 14.20 pm
