Jozani Forest Adventure with Butterfly Center visit (Half Day Tour)

Jozani Forest is the last area of indigenous forest in Zanzibar and part of the Jozani Chwaka Bay National Park. It is home to roughly one third of the remaining endemic Kirk’s Red Colobus monkeys, one of Africa's rarest primates, and many other species of animals and plants.

Jozani Forest’s 44 sq km, about 3% of the whole island, comprise groundwater forest, coastal forest and grassland, as well as mangroves and salt marsh on the coast. It provides a habitat for a wide variety of mammals, birds and butterflies.
A walk through this impressive flora and fauna is one of the highlights Zanzibar has to offer. The reserve has excellent nature trails, and our English, French, Spanish, Italian and German speaking guides are well trained and informative.

Your tour includes a visit to the Zanzibar Butterfly Centre. This community project aims to protect endangered species of butterflies, to educate both local people and visitors, and to provide an income for villagers. Set in 5000 sq/ft of beautiful gardens only 5 minutes by car from the Jozani Forest, it offers the opportunity to see butterflies very close (they might even settle on your hand!), to feed them and to learn all about their fascinating life cycle.

The income of the Zanzibar Butterfly Centre is channelled back into various local projects, particularly those that are involved in conservation and poverty alleviation.

Start best at 7.30 am from Stone Town and at 8 am from Jambiani / ends around 12 “mid-day” to 1 pm. Including private, specialized guide, entrance fees at Jozani Chwaka Bay National Park &Butterfly Center
